The Star-Spangled Banner -- U.S. National Anthem with Lyrics
Просмотров 30621 день назад
"The Star-Spangled Banner" is the national anthem of the United States. The lyrics come from the "Defence of Fort M'Henry", a poem written by American lawyer Francis Scott Key on September 14, 1814, after he witnessed the bombardment of Fort McHenry by the British Royal Navy during the Battle of Baltimore in the War of 1812. Key was inspired by the large U.S. flag, with 15 stars and 15 stripes,...

A classic breakup song sung beautifully by Annette Hanshaw. Moon Song Once I tried to capture the rapture of the night; Silly dreams I knew would disappear. But it seems they left a souvenir. The disguise scene in Star Wars had to have taken inspiration from this
This was the first recording of Ride of the Valkyries I ever heard. What a cast her had Arroyo, Verrett, Sarfaty who went on to great things , but they are all excellent here.

Very CREEPY costume, makeup, and facial expressions .....like a nightmare sequence....

@@miriam7266 Salomé was not a "popular" success, but the same could be said of Nijinsky's ballets. Only a minority of people like ballet or art films. They don't earn a lot of money and mostly appeal to the wealthy elite. Even the films of the legendary Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova did not sell out movie houses. It's a shame there are no films of the great Vaslav Nijinsky, but I doubt he would have become a matinee idol. Nazimova was not a professional dancer. Salomé is not a ballet. It is a play with a short dance sequence, so you are comparing apples with oranges. I admire that Nazimova cared more about art than money. It is only when artists are free from the constraints of someone else's budget or opinion that they can truly express themselves.
Une des plus belles œuvres jamais composées. Magnifique, émouvante...

Who is the filmmaker? I'm researching Richard Leon Stoots (1947-1993), who made some sublime photographs of Kyra Nijinsky.
@@JulieBlankenship-w6d She Dances Alone (1981) was directed by Robert Dornhelm; screenplay by Paul Davids; additional dramatic elements by Bud Cort; narration written by Jon Bradshaw; director of photography, Karl Kofler; edited by Tina Frese; music by Gustavo Santaolalla; dance consultant, Paul Szilard; produced by Federico de Laurentiis and Earle Mack; distributed by Continental. I love the photos of Kyra Nijinsky in costume for Le Spectre de la Rose (like her father). Vanity Fair published this one by Cecil Beaton on July 1, 1935: condenaststore.com/featured/kyra-nijinsky-in-le-spectre-de-la-rose-cecil-beaton.html?product=acrylic-print
Billy!
Love this song and Mario lanza
I recommend watching the story of how Francis Scott Key was inspired to write The Star-Spangled Banner. It's amazing how brave our American forefathers were to snarl so boldly at the British lion against tremendous odds. Like the Guru in "Gunga Din" (1939) said: "Fine generals, friends, are not made of jeweled swords and mustache wax. They are made of what is there [points to his heart] and what is here [his head.]": ruclips.net/video/NCdwPf46N30/видео.htmlsi=gHzUC9HVhjW2R-16
Hope that you had a safe 4th of July. Such a nice video, girl. The nicest fireworks I've seen!
@@lindaparker7199 Thank you, dear Lindy! I just sent you an email telling you all about it. Fourth of July used to be my favorite holiday as a kid, but since the ban on home fireworks in SF years ago, it's not quite the same. Still, it sounded like World War III for five hours straight. I guess inflation hasn't affected illegal fireworks sales.
Mental! Love it!
i've thought about chopping up the film, leaving just the narrator parts. All the science teachers they have in these videos are second rate minds.
This piece always reminds me of the intermezzo from Carmen. Mountainous nomads. 💢
Hollyweird crap never stops. Dancing dwarfs and all. I know 10 years olds with more style, talent and sense than this trash. Iwas bad when it was released. Trust me..I am old as dirt myself.
Sorry it's not your cup of tea. I used to think it was weird, too, just from looking at stills in an old movie book. Then I finally saw it on RUclips and was surprised at how good it is. It just needed better music.
Wwonderful. Thank you.
Thank you for this version with the Strauss music; I found the synthesizer soundtrack on another version rather annoying, it put me off watching.
@@art2liv4 Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed it.

This portrayal by Maria Ewing takes a lot of beating. ruclips.net/user/results?search_query=salome+opera+dance++Maria%3F
@@elektra9474 Maria Ewing was amazing! She delivered on the sensuality expected from this role. Thank you for sharing.
@@GildaTabarez Ewing was a very gifted opera singer as well as being able to dance. She probably worked out a lot, judging by the musculature in her arms.
@elektra9474 Yes, Ewing had the stamina for this difficult role. She could dance, but the choreography needed more veil work. I prefer veils that float in the air, like Nazimova's did. Ewing's costume looked like a modern 3/4 slip. A full length dress would have made her look less lanky and more exotic. However, her great singing and intense acting more than made up for these details. I thought Nazimova's dance costume looked too modern as well. Ewing was in such great shape, she could have rocked a more revealing costume such as seen in the painting The Apparition (1876) by Gustave Moreau, which was one of the inspirations for Oscar Wilde’s play.
@@GildaTabarez Fair comment about the veil and the dress. You are much more observant than I am about the details.
@@elektra9474 My longtime favorite operatic Salome is Teresa Stratas, but Rita Hayworth had the best costume. The soundtrack for this video clip is from Salome (1975) directed by Götz Friedrich: ruclips.net/video/uEUhGRe53dY/видео.htmlsi=-upi_ch0gBnC1MSd

Thank you for your reply! The leaves are too high for me to reach but a friend took a photo for me the other day which I have uploaded to Pinterest: pin.it/5XKgQ61LJ An app on my friend's Apple cell phone said mulberry and so did Google Lens on my android cell. But I have never seen any berries on the tree. I was thinking maybe an elm tree. There are 30 to 40 different kinds of elm. The leaves are not hairy. A neighbor thinks it's buckthorn but again I've never seen berries on it. Thank you in advance for any ideas.
